FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
- How do you pronounce Una? ew-nuh
- Are you a federally or state-recognized Native American tribe? No. We are a Native American Mixed-Blood tribe; the first one in the United States.
- Where are you located? Our headquarters is in Eugene, Oregon.
- Who can be a member? We do not have an enrollment application, as all Native American Mixed-Bloods are automatically members. No need to apply.
- When were you founded? January 1, 2009.
- Who is a Mixed-Blood? A Mixed-Blood is someone who is of two or more races and claims a Native American ancestor no matter how far back.
- Do enrolled members have fishing and hunting rights? No. The Una Nation is not federally or state-recognized.
- Do you plan to get state recognition? Yes. We are currently working to obtain state recognition from Oregon.
- Do you do an annual Powwow? Not currently. However, once we have land for our reservation, we will be planning an annual gathering.
- My great-great-great-great-grandma was a Cherokee Princess. Can I be a member? Yes. If you identify as mixed-blood, then that qualifies you for enrollment. However, the Cherokee Nation claims there were never Indian Princesses, regardless that Princess is how the daughters of a Chief were referred to by the English.
